That’s a Wrap

Ever have one of those days when you just want to stay in your robe all day?  Me too.  The good news is, this season you can do it any day of the week.  Kimonos are trending, which means you can roll out of bed, wrap yourself up, and go.  In everything from silk to cotton, long to short, they’ve got you covered.  Style them with a skinny pant and heels, or wear them on their own, open or closed, the options are endless.

Originally kimono was simply the Japanese word for clothing, but has morphed over the years to refer specifically to traditional Japanese clothing.

Kimonos as we know them today are made in the straight-line-cut method.  This technique was developed during the Heian period beginning in 794 A.D. and allowed the kimono makers to simply cut the pieces of the garments in straight lines, and sew them together, without worrying about the shape of the body.  What a liberating concept!

Over the years, colors and patterns came into play, often to represent different seasons or social classes.  Thankfully, today we’re free to mix and match as we like without worry of causing offense.  Wear them now with a gladiator sandal, and move into fall layering them with a turtleneck and ankle boots.  Here are a few of my top picks:
