Without a doubt, Fall is one of the most beautiful seasons to spend in the Hamptons. The leaves are just starting to change, sunflowers are at their peak and you can’t take a step without tripping over a pumpkin. Locals love it, as summer visitors make their annual exodus. It’s the perfect time to go for a long bike ride, take a walk on the beach, and get into restaurants that were packed all summer. It’s also a great time to take advantage of fall specials.
The Southampton Inn has been a local landmark for three generations. With 90 guest rooms, they are pet and family friendly. The ambiance is the perfect mix of classic Hamptons style and a European boutique hotel. They offer tennis, boating, and gorgeous local beaches, (where the water stays warm through September, I swear!) The pool is open through Columbus Day weekend, and at night you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine by the fire. Their restaurant, Claude’s, is known for its farm fresh, local ingredients, and nothing on the menu is over $20.
Last week, I spoke with Dede Gotthelf, the owner since 1997, and she shared some of what makes the Inn so special. She tells me three quarters of their visitors are returning guests. She’s now seeing second and third generations of families coming to stay with them, and loves meeting new people, but especially loves greeting old friends. Dede prides herself on going above and beyond to create a memorable stay, offering special insider discounts for local events, including the upcoming International Film Festival, October 5th-9th. For the month of September, they are running a 6 day 5 night midweek special, for $1,175. Guests will also receive 25% off spa services at Hair Studio 71 on Hill St, in Southampton.
I asked Dede for some recommendations, of places she loves nearby. She says not to miss Sip’n Soda and the Plaza Cafe for the fresh fish. She also says her entire staff loves shopping at Gretchen Scott on Jobs Lane (and this is the perfect time of year to catch her half off sale!)
