This week I had the opportunity to speak with Monica Horn, who along with her husband Lance, run Eternal Roses NY. Last year, at 8 1/2 months pregnant, Monica found herself in the position of having to reinvent her garden import business, and quickly. And so Eternal Roses NY was born, (along with Monica’s second child.)
She decided to introduce floral arrangements, made entirely of real roses, that will last for up to 3 years!! That’s longer than most relationships. They take a rose that’s in full bloom, and through a secret, patented process (that she can’t share with me), they coat the roses, to keep them vibrant, and beautiful for years. The only ingredient I got out of her was glycerine. She imports the roses from Ecuador, and the displays are all assembled in the states. She tells me the metallics require a thicker coating, and stay tuned for some new releases this fall.
With prices ranging from $89-$599, Monica says the displays are sold to many restaurants and hotels NYC, since they are such a worthwhile investment. They’re also used for weddings, (and these might be the only bouquet I actually want to bring home at the end!)
The flag rose box that opens this story, she designed specifically for her husband, an army veteran. And what better way to thank a loved one who served, than with a lasting gift, commemorating their commitment to the country. Happy 4th of July to all of you!!
