Tortoise is trending. Historically tortoiseshell accessories were made from the shells of the Hawksbill and Loggerhead turtles, now considered endangered species. Widely popular since ancient times, today there’s no need to feel guilty buying a piece or two, since it’s been illegal to use or trade actual tortoiseshell since the 1970s. In order to buy genuine tortoiseshell legally, it needs to be at least a hundred years old, or to have come from an estate. So whether you’re looking to add interest to an outfit, or add a piece to your home, here’s a range of options I love this season.
